LINKING CARBON MARKETS AND CLIMATE FINANCE – KEY INSIGHTS FROM THE CLIMATE FINANCE INNOVATORS PROJECT

The Climate Finance Innovators Project, supported by Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI) has pioneered linking market mechanisms and climate finance. The project activities
focused on supporting African countries and project implementers to generate practical experience with such linkages to balance respective strengths and weaknesses. These efforts were
complemented by support to African negotiators for contributing to finalise the Paris Agreement (PA) Article 6 carbon market rules, capacity building for partner countries and regional
alliances and institutions, as well as knowledge creation and outreach at relevant regional and
international fora.
